Lagos 2027: Mobilisation For Ambode Gathers Momentum

Mobilisation for the possible return of former Lagos State governor Akinwunmi Ambode to the Lagos State Government House in 2027 has begun, a political support group, Tinubu/Ambode Patriots, has said.

The group also reaffirmed its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, describing the pairing of Tinubu at the national level and Ambode in Lagos as the best leadership option for Nigeria and the state.

The position was announced by the group’s Coordinator, Mr Dare Dada, during a strategy meeting of members in Ikeja, Lagos.

Dada disclosed that the group had begun strengthening its grassroots structures across the state as part of a broader mobilisation campaign aimed at building support for Ambode’s return to office.

Ambode served as governor of Lagos State for a single term between 2015 and 2019, but his attempt to secure a second term ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was halted after he lost the party’s governorship primary election.

At the time, the development was widely interpreted in political circles as the result of opposition from influential political figures and power blocs within Lagos, many of whom were believed to be aligned with President Tinubu, the state’s most dominant political leader.

Despite the setback, Ambode’s tenure in office in 2027 continues to attract positive reviews from some residents who point to his administration’s emphasis on infrastructure development, urban renewal and improvements in the state’s security architecture.

Dada said the group believes Lagos State would benefit from the return of what he described as a tested administrator with a clear development record.

“We have commenced mobilisation across Lagos because many residents still recall the achievements of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode during his time in office,” he said.

“His record between 2015 and 2019 remains visible in several infrastructure projects across the state, and many stakeholders believe his return would further accelerate development.”

According to him, the group is convinced that President Tinubu’s continued leadership at the national level and Ambode’s possible return to Lagos would provide a strong combination for sustaining progress.

“We are convinced that the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is in the best interest of Nigeria,” Dada said.

“At the same time, Lagos requires experienced leadership capable of consolidating on the developmental strides recorded over the years.”

He urged coordinators of the group at senatorial, local government and ward levels to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the state.

“Our coordinators must return to the grassroots and begin the work of engagement,” he said.

“They should interact with residents, market leaders, youth groups and community stakeholders to explain why the leadership combination of President Tinubu and former Governor Ambode represents a credible path for sustained development.”

The group expressed confidence that growing interest in Ambode’s possible return in 2027 would gather momentum as consultations and mobilisation efforts expand across the state.
