Fernandes Breaks Beckham Assist Record As Man United Defeat Aston Villa

Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in their English Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The encounter featured two sides level on points in the race for third place, but it was the Red Devils who emerged victorious, with Bruno Fernandes orchestrating play and playing a decisive role in the win.

After a goalless first half, United broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second period. A well-delivered corner from Fernandes was headed home to give the hosts the lead in the 53rd minute.

Aston Villa responded through Ross Barkley, who levelled the score to briefly put the visitors back into contention.

However, Fernandes again proved influential as United restored their advantage. The Portuguese midfielder produced a defence-splitting through pass that was calmly finished into the far corner by Matheus Cunha in the 71st minute.

The assist marked Fernandes’ 16th of the season, setting a new club record and surpassing the previous mark of 15 assists set by David Beckham 26 years ago.

Substitute Benjamin Šeško sealed the victory for Manchester United ten minutes later when his deflected shot found the back of the net to make it 3-1.

Šeško’s goal was his eighth in 10 matches and his fourth as a substitute, as United extended their strong home form with a fifth consecutive win at Old Trafford.

The result moves Manchester United outright into third place with 54 points from 30 matches, three points ahead of Aston Villa, as they continue their push to return to the UEFA Champions League after a two-year absence.
