IGP files charges against two over alleged cyberstalking of Moniepoint
The inspector-general of police (IGP) has filed a seven-count charge against Adebayo Aliu and Fatuntele Tunde over an alleged scheme to cyberstalk Moniepoint Microfinance Bank and incite online attacks against the company.
In a charge before a federal high court in Abuja, the defendants were accused of creating a fraudulent platform to solicit public engagement by promising N500,000 to individuals who posted the phrase “Moniepoint scandal” and shared fabricated negative experiences about the bank.
The police alleged that the platform was designed to spread false information and trigger public unrest, in breach of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 (as amended).
According to the charge, the defendants conspired to “bully, threaten or harass” the corporate image of Moniepoint through coordinated online activity.
The prosecution further alleged that the duo impersonated Brain Jotter, a social media influencer, to lend credibility to the scheme and mislead the public.
The offences are said to have been committed in January 2026 within the court’s jurisdiction.
The police also accused the defendants of making false representations capable of causing reputational and financial damage to the bank.
The prosecution listed Charles Ugbebor, a representative of the complainant, and Yamu Moses, a chief superintendent of police (CSP), alongside his team as witnesses expected to testify during the trial.
It said documentary evidence, including statements and computer printouts, would be tendered to support the case.
