Court Jails 18-Year-Old For Stealing Pregnant Goat In Kaduna
A customary court sitting in Kafanchan has convicted and sentenced an 18-year-old man, Gado Adamu, to prison over the theft of a pregnant goat and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Adamu was arraigned on charges bordering on theft and illegal possession of a weapon, offences punishable under Sections 345 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Adamu pleaded guilty when the charges were read to him, appealing to the court for leniency.
Delivering judgment, Presiding Judge Patience Baryat sentenced Adamu to three months’ imprisonment for unlawful possession of a weapon but gave him the option of a N20,000 fine.
On the theft charge, the court handed him an additional two months’ imprisonment or a N10,000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Favour Solomon, told the court that the case was reported at the Kafanchan Divisional Police Station on February 2.
According to the prosecution, Adamu was apprehended by residents in Zankan village while in possession of the stolen pregnant she-goat, valued at N160,000.
He was also found with a Dane gun, which he allegedly carried without a valid licence.
