Beto Double Dents Chelsea’s Top-Four Hopes In Loss To Everton
Guinea-Bissau striker Beto scored twice and provided an assist as Everton cruised to a 3-0 victory over Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Portugal-born forward, who has spoken of feeling at home at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, delivered an inspired performance, overpowering Chelsea’s defence and capitalising on errors from goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, as Everton outclassed a disjointed Chelsea side.
Beto opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a first-time finish from James Garner’s incisive through ball, giving Everton a deserved lead heading into the break.
He doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute with a shot on the turn that slipped through Sánchez, compounding the goalkeeper’s difficult outing.
The brace made Beto the first Everton player to score multiple goals in a single match this season.
Iliman Ndiaye added a third in style, curling a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the area to seal Everton’s biggest win over Chelsea since 1987, and secure back-to-back victories at their new stadium.
The defeat marks Chelsea’s fourth consecutive loss in all competitions — their worst run since 1993. With just one win in their last six league matches, the Blues remain sixth on the table with 48 points from 31 games.
Meanwhile, Everton’s resurgence sees them close the gap, now just two points behind Chelsea as they push for a potential European spot.
