Yoruba Union Asks Sunday Igboho To Confront ‘Fulani Terrorists’ In Kwara Instead Of Threatening Nigerians Who Are Tired Of Tinubu Ahead Of 2027
Yoruba socio-cultural group, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has warned self-acclaimed Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to stop intimidating Yoruba citizens over political differences and instead focus on confronting Fulani terrorists now occupying parts of Kwara State.
The group accused Igboho of threatening Yoruba people who do not share his political views, particularly those who do not support President Bola Tinubu, describing his actions as contradictory to his earlier claim of fighting for the liberation of the Odùduwà Republic.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Convener of the union, Olusola Badero, and signed through the organisation’s Home Director, Princess Balogun, the group criticised Igboho for allegedly supporting the administration of President Tinubu while, according to them, insecurity continues to plague Yoruba communities.
The statement accused Igboho of remaining silent over the kidnapping and killing of Yoruba people who disagree with his political stance.
“It is very unfortunate that the self-acclaimed Yoruba activist who publicly claimed he is fighting for the emancipation of the Odùduwà Republic and who once opposed Tinubu’s presidential ambitions is the same person now supporting Tinubu and threatening those who oppose Tinubu’s ambition for a second term,” they said.
According to the group, Igboho has recently issued warnings that no politician should be allowed to campaign in the South-West region, a move it described as intimidation and an attempt to suppress political opposition.
“It has come to our attention that Sunday Igboho is threatening Yoruba people. He has done that publicly in one of the videos currently going viral where he warned that no politician should come to the South-West for campaigns,” the group said.
The union also referenced a voice note circulating online in which Igboho allegedly threatened a social media personality.
“In another note voice, he was threatening and allegedly ordering the abduction of a TikToker known as ‘Funny Thinker’ who vowed support for Peter Obi and gave him a 24-hour ultimatum,” Ìgbìnmó MájékóbájéIlé-Yorùbá said.
The group said such actions mirror the tactics often associated with political thuggery.
“Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá views this action as no different from the activities of political thugs and their usual modus operandi.”
The union further accused Igboho of acting as though he had constitutional authority to summon individuals or order their arrest.
“Sunday Igboho has made himself a constitutional authority who can demand that someone he wants be brought before him simply because he believes he is enjoying government backing.
“He has forgotten that some years back he could not dare enter the country, but today because he was pardoned by the APC government, he is now misbehaving and threatening people simply for criticising him.”
The organisation urged the activist to redirect his attention to security challenges in Kwara State, particularly in the southern part of the state where it claimed fulani herdsmen have been terrorising communities.
“Sunday Igboho should, as a matter of fact, go to Kwara State and flush out the Fulani terrorists who have taken over the entire Kwara South,” the Yoruba Union said.
“He should stop being a stooge for politicians. He enjoyed standing ovations for his activism until recently when many believe he sold out from the agitation for the emancipation of the Odùduwà Republic.”
The group added that Igboho appears to have forgotten the core ideals of the struggle he once championed.
“Sunday Igboho has forgotten that whoever is pursuing something ahead is actually leaving some other things behind,” it said.
However, the union warned the activist against abusing the influence he has gained within the Yoruba socio-political space.
“He shouldn’t enjoy the privileges of royalty and then defecate on himself,” they added.
The organisation further alleged that several traditional rulers in Kwara State have been kidnapped or killed by armed groups, accusing Igboho of failing to speak strongly about the situation.
“Many traditional rulers have been kidnapped in Kwara, and some have been killed by Fulani terrorists. Yet Sunday Igboho has not threatened to flush them out, but he quickly becomes furious over youths who criticise him.”
The group also called on Nigerian security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), to intervene and caution the activist against making threats.
“Nigeria is not a banana republic. It is the responsibility of security agencies, especially the DSS, to invite Sunday Igboho and warn him against threatening citizens,” Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá said.
“No one is above the law, no matter their status in society, except if Nigeria as a country is no longer guided by the rule of law.”
Yoruba Union urged public figures and activists to exercise restraint and respect democratic rights, including the right of citizens to hold and express differing political views without fear of intimidation.(SaharaReporters)
