Atiku, Kwankwaso Meet As 2027 Realignment Talks Continue
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso had a meeting in Abuja, on Saturday.
Both key opposition figures were on the ballot in the last presidential election won by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the election, Atiku, who ran under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second, while Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled up to one million votes in Kano, stronghold of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in previous elections.
“This evening, I received the former Governor of Kano State and the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on a courtesy visit. We had a robust discussion on the state of the nation. -AA,” Atiku posted on his social media handles.
The post has since sparked frenzy online, with different political camps reacting to it.
However, the meeting is coming amidst speculation of Kwankwaso dumping the NNPP for the coalition ADC.
Since he lost the last presidential election, Atiku has been in the vanguard of forming a broad based coalition of opposition figures against the ruling APC.
The meeting is the second which Kwankwaso would hold with a key figure of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the coalition plotting to unseat Tinubu in 2027, in the last 48 hours.
Kwankwaso earlier met with Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun State governor and estranged ally of Tinubu, who is the National Secretary of the ADC.
The meeting is believed to be about next year’s election as politicians have continued to align and realign ahead of the elections.(daily trust)
