KitKat says 12 tonnes of chocolate bars stolen en route from Italy to Poland
KitKat, a brand owned by Nestlé, a multinational food and beverage conglomerate, says a shipment of its products has been stolen while in transit between Italy and Poland.
In a statement on X on Monday, KitKat confirmed that 12 tonnes of its products were taken during transportation from its factory in central Italy to their intended destination in Poland.
“We can confirm that 12T of KitKat products were stolen while in transit between our factory in Central Italy and their destination in Poland,” the company said.
KitKat said it is collaborating with law enforcement authorities and supply chain partners to investigate the incident and recover the stolen goods.
“We are working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate,” the statement added.
KitKat reassured consumers that the incident does not pose any safety risk and will not disrupt product availability in the market.
“The good news: there are no concerns for consumer safety, and supply is not affected,” the chocolate bar producer said.
The circumstances surrounding the theft, including how the consignment was intercepted, were not disclosed, as investigations are ongoing.
According to reports, Nestle said the truck carrying 12 tons represented 413,793 bars of its new chocolate range.
The company, however, assured that it would be able to trace the stolen goods by scanning the unique batch of codes found on each bar. (TheCable)
