FG Repatriates 1,231 Nigerians From Niger In One Week
The Federal Government of Nigeria has successfully repatriated another batch of 523 stranded Nigerian migrants from Niamey, Republic of Niger, making a total number of returnees within a week to 1,231.
The returnees, received in Kano on Sunday, March 29, 2026, were evacuated under the supervision of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI). The operations, is in line with the directives from the Federal Government.
Speaking on the development, on behalf of the NCFRMI Commissioner, Hon. Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, the Kano Operations Coordinator, Hajiya Lubah Liman, described the exercise as a voluntary evacuation of stranded Nigerian nationals from the Niger Republic.
According to her, the repatriation was facilitated by the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Commission.
“This latest operation follows an earlier batch of 708 returnees received on Monday, March 23, 2026. With the arrival of the second batch, the total number of Nigerians evacuated from Niger Republic within the period has now risen to 1,231,” she said.
A breakdown of the returnees shows that the group comprised 345 males, including 267 adult men and 78 boys and 178 females, made up of 104 adult women and 74 girls.
The returnees, who arrived by road, hail from various parts of the country, including Kano, Jigawa, Plateau, Katsina, Taraba, Enugu, Ebonyi, Lagos Rivers, Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi among others.
However, NCFRMI provided the Returnees with starter packs containing some basic materials and other things they may require. (Daily trust)
