The outburst follows a viral video circulating on social media where in a footage some people were allegedly sponsored to cause trouble, chanting insults, and banging loud drums around Obasanjo, a situation that created a scene against conductive atmosphere the major political event.
The Campaign Director, Adisa Adejumo, who said that the team found such conduct at the convention very unpalatable especially at such event that required, unity, mutual respect, and maturity among political leaders and aspirants, commended their supporters for not reacting back to the provocateurs.
Adejumo, however, stressed that that the the leadership of Iyabo Obasanjo campaign team would not be moved by political provocations as it was rooted in democratic values based on dignity and discipline.
He urged their supporters and loyalists to remain calm and avoid verbal attacks and also remain law-abiding, insisting that they should not allow themselves to be provoked by negative words or deeds that could force them to retaliate against their moral values.
Adejumo said ” The attention of our campaign has been drawn to a widely circulated video from the recently concluded All Progressives Congress National Convention in Abuja, showing disturbing scenes of coordinated provocation and disruptive conduct targeted at fellow aspirants, including Senator (Prof.) Iyabo Obasanjo.”
“In the footage, some alleged sponsored individuals were seen engaging in provocative acts, such as chanting derogatory songs and deploying loud talking drums around our principal, creating an atmosphere that does not align with the decorum expected at a national political gathering as such.”
“We find such actions deeply concerning, particularly in a setting that demands unity, maturity and mutual respect among leaders and aspirants.”
“While we refrain from engaging in speculation, the visible proximity and apparent inaction of key figures in that camp raise serious questions about leadership responsibility and the tone being set for political engagement in Ogun State.”
“However, we wish to make our position unequivocally clear:
Our campaign, under the leadership of Senator (Prof.) Iyabo Obasanjo, is firmly rooted in dignity, discipline and democratic values. We reject all forms of political intimidation, provocation and hostility.”
“We commend our supporters and the good people of Ogun State who have brought this matter to public attention and we sincerely appreciate their restraint in the face of provocation.”
“We urge all our supporters to remain calm, law-abiding and focused. Under no circumstances should anyone respond with negativity, abuse, or retaliation.”
“Our commitment remains to issue-based politics, centered on policies, people and progress, not theatrics or disruption.”
“We remain focused, resolute and committed to building a better Ogun State for all.” he added.
