Elephant Party Stomps Into Coalition Talks: APP Emerges As ‘Plan B’ For Obi And ADC Stakeholders
With the African Democratic Congress (ADC) currently locked in a chokehold by INEC and the Presidency, the Action Peoples Party (APP)—famously known as the “Elephant Party”—has officially stepped into the ring. Insiders confirm the APP has approached ADC stakeholders with a bold “Plan B” to ensure the opposition isn’t wiped off the 2027 presidential ballot.
The move comes as the David Mark-led ADC leadership faces a coordinated assault from state institutions, threatening their ability to present a presidential candidate. Sources reveal that the Peter Obi camp isn’t taking any chances; his team has reportedly held secret, high-level meetings with the APP leadership, with “significant agreements” already said to be on the table.
The ‘Safe Haven’ Strategy
For Peter Obi and the “Obidient” movement, the APP represents a strategic escape pod. While Obi remains committed to the ADC for now, the ongoing “lawlessness and intimidation” cited by ADC’s Bolaji Abdullahi has raised alarms. If the courts and INEC succeed in paralyzing the ADC’s machinery, the “Elephant Party” is positioning itself as the sturdy platform that can’t be easily knocked over.
“We are watching a script to turn Nigeria into a one-party state,” a source close to the Obi-APP talks whispered. “The APP is offering a clean, litigation-free house. If the ADC stays locked in the basement of the courtrooms, the ‘Rescue Journey’ will simply move to the Elephant.”
A Coalition of the Willing
The APP’s overtures aren’t just about a logo change; it’s about survival. The “Elephant” is gaining weight as a viable third force, especially as prominent figures like Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu have already found a home there. The reported alliance between Obi and the APP suggests a massive realignment is brewing—one that could merge the ADC’s grassroots structure with the APP’s legal stability.
This development adds another layer of complexity to a week of political warfare. From Governor Bala Mohammed’s defiance against EFCC “bullying” to the mass APC resignations in Jigawa, the opposition is clearly building a fortress. The APP’s entry into the fray signals that even if the Tinubu-led government succeeds in “destabilizing” the ADC, the opposition has already scouted its next battlefield.
For the David Mark-led NWC, the APP’s offer is both a lifeline and a warning: the movement is bigger than any single party name. If the ADC can’t break the INEC siege, the “Elephant” is ready to stampede toward 2027.
