JUST IN: Officers Gunned Down As Boko Haram Hits Borno Police Station
At least four policemen and and a hunter have been shot dead by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Borno, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, who disclosed this, said the personnel paid the supreme price, during a midnight attack in Nganzai and Mobbar Local Government Areas of the state.
He said on Saturday, April 4 at about 1am, armed terrorists attacked the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in an attempt to overrun the town.
He stated that the Police Divisional officers, in collaboration with the Police Mobile Force (PMF) operatives and Crack Squad on special duty, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, and successfully repelled the coordinated terrorist attacks on the Nganzai and the Damasak communities and restored normalcy.
ASP Daso added that the attackers deployed Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and other sophisticated weapons, causing damage to a section of the station and partially burnt an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
“But regrettably, four police personnel paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” he said.
In a related incident, the police PPRO said on the same date at about 2:40am, the terrorists attacked Malam Fatori IDP Camp in Damasak town of Mobbar LGA, targeting a CJTF/Hunters duty post at the entrance of the camp.
However, during the attack, one member of the Hunters Group, Atom Abua, 40, lost his life, while about 20 thatched houses and properties were destroyed.
The PPRO said during both attacks, combined teams of the Police, Military, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters responded swiftly, repelled the attackers, and prevented further damage.
The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid has deployed additional manpower and operational assets to the affected areas to strengthen security, intensify ongoing operations, and prevent any further attacks.
Daso stated that the CP also commended the bravery and resilience of the officers who confronted the assailants and prevented them from overrunning the town.
“He also extends his condolences to the families of the deceased personnel and assures that the Command is committed to tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
“Members of the public are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and continue to support security agencies with credible information,” Daso added.
He further reiterated the Command’s commitment to protection of lives and property across Borno State.(Daily trust)
