Shock in Ogun as relatives nabbed for plotting man’s murder

Police in Ogun State have arrested three suspects for allegedly killing a 38-year-old man, Stanley Okirie in Akute in Ifo Local Council of the state.

The suspects are: Maureen Okirie, 35, Salia Karikari,15, and Jubril Karikari,12.

They were arrest at about 1115 hours on Thursday, April 9, 2026, after one of them was caught trying to bury the corpse of the deceased drenched in blood in a shallow grave.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday,

Babaseyi said that the suspects arrest follows an anonymous tip-off on suspicious activities in the area.

He said that based on the information detectives of the Ajuwon Division, swung into action and arrested the suspect was trying to bury the corpse whose arrest lead to the others.

The Police PRO said that among the suspects were members of the deceased’s family who conspired other to kill him after which they planned to bury his death body in the grave to cover up their crime.

He said that the suspects used wooden pestle to kill the victim as preliminary examination on the body revealed a severe injury to the victim’s head.

“Preliminary examination of the body revealed a severe injury to the victim’s head. Further investigation indicates that the victim was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle, while the other suspects, who are relatives of the deceased, conspired in the commission of the crime and the attempted cover-up. The suspected murder weapon has been recovered, and the body has been deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary, Olambe, for autopsy.” Babaseyi added

He said that the suspects are currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

However, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act, describing it as a cruel, inhumane and deeply disturbing incident, particularly as it involved close family members.

Ojajuni emphasized that such acts of violence and attempts to conceal crimes will not be tolerated under any circumstance, assuring the members of the public that the Command is fully committed to a thorough and transparent investigation, and that all those found culpable will face the full weight of the law.

He also called on residents to remain security conscious, promptly report suspicious activities, and continue to cooperate with the Police in the collective effort to rid society of criminal elements.
