Gunmen Kill Three Vigilantes, Kidnap Village Head In Kebbi Community Attack
The attackers, believed to be members of a terrorist group locally referred to as “Mamudawa Boko Haram,” were said to have targeted both residents and local security volunteers during the assault.
Three vigilante members have been killed and a village head abducted following a suspected terrorist attack on Yantala village in Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, citing security sources, the incident occurred on April 15, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., when armed men stormed the community and opened sporadic fire on residents, causing panic.
The attackers, believed to be members of a terrorist group locally referred to as “Mamudawa Boko Haram,” were said to have targeted both residents and local security volunteers during the assault.
Security reports identified those killed in the attack, stating that “Usman Riga of Sabon Gari village, Bande of the same address, and Bala Dan Chako of Yantala village” lost their lives.
The same sources confirmed the abduction of prominent community members, noting that “the village head of Yantala, Garba Ahmadu, 85, alongside another resident, Bala Mazuga” were taken by the attackers.
During the operation, the assailants also destroyed property as part of the raid, with reports indicating that one motorcycle was set ablaze before they fled.
Residents said the attackers escaped through nearby bush paths, complicating immediate efforts to pursue them.
Local sources explained that the attackers operated with superior firepower, overpowering the vigilantes and forcing villagers to flee to safety.
The attack has heightened fear within the community, with many residents reportedly displaced following the incident.(SaharaReporters)
