Kano APC disowns Arewa forum, denies withdrawing support for Tinubu
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state says it has not withdrawn support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, contrary to claims by the state chapter of the Arewa APC forum.
In a statement issued on Friday by Sallah Kibiya, its chairman, the Arewa APC forum in Kano had announced the withdrawal of its support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The group said the decision “follows extensive consultations and careful reflection on the direction of governance at the federal level”.
“The Forum has resolved that it can no longer, in good conscience, continue to lend support to an administration widely criticised for nepotism, incompetence, and corruption,” the statement reads.
“We believe that leadership must inspire confidence, uphold fairness, and demonstrate a sincere commitment to national unity, institutional integrity, and responsible governance.”
“Where these values are persistently undermined, silence becomes complicity.”
The group directed its members to act in line with its position in all future engagements.
Reacting in a statement on Saturday, Auwalu Abdullahi, the APC publicity secretary in Kano, described the claim as “false, misleading, and a calculated attempt to tarnish” the party’s image.
“The APC in Kano is aware of attempts by certain individuals and faceless groups to create confusion and disunity within the party,” the statement reads.
“We wish to state categorically that this so-called forum is not known to the party structure and does not represent the views of APC members in Kano State.”
The party affirmed its support for the Tinubu administration, urging party members and the public to disregard any statement capable of causing mischief and unnecessary tension.(TheCable)
