ADC Crisis Deepens In Adamawa Over Binani’s Alleged Moves, Party Denies Coalition Plans With PRP
Fresh tension has erupted in the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid allegations that Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani) may be politically aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that has further strained internal party relations.
Party chiefs claimed that Binani’s recent political conduct has raised concerns among stakeholders, particularly her reported boycott of the ADC state congress despite a previously agreed internal arrangement meant to guide the process.
The situation has been further complicated by reports that the President Bola Tinubu-led government has approved the reactivation of her airline, Binani Air, allowing it to resume operations.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority is said to have issued the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) on March 18, 2026, a development some party members view as politically sensitive given the timing.
Within the ADC, certain stakeholders argue that the convergence of these events has fuelled speculation about possible external political influence and alleged efforts to weaken party cohesion in Adamawa ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
Some party stakeholders also alleged increasing interference linked to the APC-led federal government, which they describe as part of broader political maneuvering in opposition strongholds.
They added that the unfolding situation highlights growing internal divisions within the ADC in Adamawa, as broader national political realignments continue to reshape alliances, rivalries, and strategies ahead of the next general elections.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed as “not true” reports circulating in political circles that it is engaged in talks with another opposition platform ahead of an anticipated court ruling, insisting that no such negotiations are underway.
In a statement on Monday, April 20, 2026 addressing the speculation, the party specifically denied claims of discussions with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), describing the narrative as unfounded and misleading.
“Our attention has been drawn to a story in circulation that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is in talks with another political party, specifically the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), in anticipation of its court judgment,” the statement read.
“We would like to state categorically that this is not true.”
The party stressed that its leadership remains focused on ongoing legal efforts rather than political realignments, noting, “The coalition leadership is not having any such conversation with any political party at the moment.”
The ADC further linked the speculation to broader tensions surrounding its internal leadership dispute, which it claims involves actions by Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside unnamed political actors.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that the illegal action taken against our leadership by INEC and other agents of the ruling party is upturned. We believe that this is the only path to safeguarding the rule of law and ensuring that multiparty democracy survives in Nigeria,” the statement added.
Despite expressing concern over what it described as systemic challenges, the party maintained confidence in the judiciary’s role in resolving the dispute.
“Notwithstanding the flagrant bastardisation of democratic institutions, the ADC leadership remains confident that the judicial institutions will, at this defining moment, resist the pressure to be complicit in undermining Nigeria’s democracy.”
