Dangote Refinery Slams N500,000 Daily Penalty For Truck Overstay

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has introduced a new penalty regime targeting trucks that remain within its premises after completing loading procedures, as part of efforts to ease congestion and improve operational efficiency.

In a directive issued by its Group Commercial Operations on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the refinery announced that any truck that fails to exit the facility after collecting its waybill and other clearance documents will be charged a penalty of ₦500,000 per day.

The company said the measure takes immediate effect from April 14, 2026.

According to the notice, the decision follows observed operational disruptions caused by trucks lingering within the refinery premises after completing documentation, a situation that has constrained the movement of inbound trucks scheduled for loading.

The refinery noted that the continued presence of such trucks has contributed to congestion within the facility, affecting turnaround time and overall logistics flow.

Under the new rule, enforcement will apply to all trucks that have completed loading and received exit documentation but remain within the premises beyond the expected departure window.

Management stated that the penalty is designed to ensure compliance, streamline truck movements, and maintain a steady flow of operations within the refinery’s loading infrastructure.

The company also urged depot owners, marketers, and logistics operators to communicate the directive to drivers and trucking firms to ensure full adherence.

Industry participants say the development reflects increasing pressure on logistics systems supporting refined product evacuation, particularly as volumes ramp up at the refinery.

The introduction of the penalty signals a stricter enforcement approach by the refinery aimed at reducing bottlenecks and optimising loading operations within Nigeria’s largest refining complex.
