Euro Round-Up: Real Madrid Drop Points At Betis, Nottingham Forest Demolish Sunderland
Real Madrid conceded an injury time equalizer to draw 1-1 at Real Betis in the Spanish La Liga on Friday night.
The Spanish capital club needed to continue winning in the hope of a Barcelona slip-up, but it was Alvaro Arbeloa’s side that dropped points in the first league match of the weekend, Hector Bellerin with the decisive goal.
Vinicius Jr. put Real ahead on 16 minutes with the rebound from Federico Valverde’s shot. The visitors did not move up a notch to press their advantage, and allowed Betis dominate the second half before conceding very late from Bellerin’s well placed shot in a crowded box. Real Madrid are eight points behind Barcelona who can go 11 points clear, while Betis are seven points behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid.
In Italy, Napoli pummeled Cremonese 4-0 to put some pressue on Inter Milan at the top of the table. Kevin de Bruyne, Scott McTominay, Alisson Santos and an own goal ensured an easy night for the Partenopei at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in Naples.
Nottingham Forest also did a demolition job on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tyneside to ease their relegation fears. An own goal opened the floodgate of four goals within 20 minutes in the first, Chris Woods, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Igor Jesus on the scoresheet for a four-nil lead at halftime. Highly sought after midfielder Elliot Anderson completed the rout with an assist from Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi who was a late substitute.
Ola Aina featured from the start as Nottingham Forest remain in 16th position but moved eight points away from the relegation zone.
