BREAKING: Bandits retreat as brave Katsina residents block entry
Residents of Gurbi community in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State have prevented an incursion into their homes by bandits.
A resident of the town, who requested anonymity, said the attackers arrived earlier in the evening but were initially unable to enter the town as members of the community gathered to protect their village.
He said as the attackers could not enter the village, they turn towards fleeing residents, whom they shot at close range, killing 10.

“As I speak to you now, there are more than 10 corpses in Nagodi area which is a village in front of Gurbi. After they left, the dead bodies were transported back to Gurbi,” he said.
The resident further lamented that they had alerted the security when got intelligence of the attack, but received no response until after the foiled attack.
“We had earlier alerted security operatives when we heard rumour of the attack, but they did not respond until after our people were killed. Only then did they arrive and begin evacuating the bodies,” he added.
Another source close to the Gurbi community leader’s palace confirmed that the attackers could not enter the village.
The source also revealed that the attackers succeeded in launching an attack on those fleeing residents who became scared and decided to run for their lives.
Kankara has been at the centre of the newly renewed bandits attack in Katsina state.
Three days ago, bandits attacked Zangon Kankara, where they set two houses and a car ablaze and also abducted two people.
However, at the time if filing this report, no official statement had been received from the police or the office of the state commissioner for Internal security and home affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu.
