Gunmen attack police base in Kwara, kill three
Suspected terrorists have attacked a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing at least three officers and injuring two others.
The early morning assault, which occurred around 1 a.m. on Saturday, triggered panic among residents, many of whom fled their homes as heavy gunfire echoed across the agrarian community.
Sources said the attackers stormed the camp in large numbers, overpowering security personnel on duty before carrying out the deadly attack.
A resident, Suleiman Issa, recounted the incident, saying, “This ugly killings happened at the early hours of 1am, just at midnight in Tenebo village, Kaiama.
“A terrible situation happened! Bandits came in their large numbers and invaded the villagers, people were killed and some were wounded,” he said.
The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the attack, noting that further details would be provided.
“I regret to confirm that an attack on the PMF Camp occurred in the early hours of today. I will provide more accurate and detailed information shortly. Thank you,” the police spokesperson said.
The latest incident underscores persistent insecurity in Kaiama Local Government Area, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted both civilians and security formations in recent months.
On April 20, suspected terrorists reportedly overran a joint security outpost in Kemanji community, killing at least three soldiers and two vigilantes while also carting away an army gun truck and other equipment.
Earlier, on April 10, five members of a local forest guard unit were killed in Nuku community, with attackers setting operational vehicles and facilities ablaze.
The violence follows a February 2026 incident in Woro and Nuku communities, where more than 200 people were reportedly killed and about 176 others, including women and children, abducted—raising fresh concerns over the deteriorating security situation in parts of Kwara State.
