‘Political nomad’ – Onanuga taunts Obi over ADC exit
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday described former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as a political nomad.
This follows Obi’s defection from the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reacting to Obi’s announcement via his X handle, Onanuga dismissed the reasons given by the former Anambra State Governor, describing it as “illogical musings”.
Onanuga argued that Obi is running away from contesting for the ADC’s ticket against Atiku and others.
He said, “We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again. Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob.
“Peter Obi is a politician made of jelly, an opportunistic fellow. He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC. He pursues the easy road, that will only lead him to doom, like in 2023.
“He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself. Welcome, Peter to the 2027 race.”
Obi was elected governor under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2006 and served two terms after a brief impeachment.
He later defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he ran as Vice-Presidential candidate in 2019.
In 2022, he defected to Labour Party just few days to the presidential primary of the PDP, whose ticket he was seeking.
In March 2025, Obi joined the coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu. The coalition later adopted ADC, which is currently locked in crisis.
On Sunday, he defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
