Suspected Kidnappers Gun Down Restaurant Owner In Edo
There was tension in Idumebo Quarters in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, after gunmen killed a popular fast food operator, Mr Justin Otene, during a failed kidnap attempt.
Otene, Chief Executive Officer of Principle Takeout, was reportedly shot dead at about 9pm on Saturday when suspected kidnappers stormed his residence.
Residents said the victim had returned home to restock after running out of supplies at his outlet in Idumebo when the attackers, believed to have trailed him, struck.
A source said the gunmen attempted to abduct him but shot him when he resisted.
The killing sparked tension in the area, worsened by reports of a planned protest circulated on social media.
Security operatives, including the police and personnel of the Edo State Security Corps, were later deployed to strategic locations in Ekpoma to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
Zonal Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, Mr Joel Aidamebor, and the Coordinator of the Edo State Special Security Squad, Mr Noal Amiolemen, confirmed the incident.
They said Governor Monday Okpebholo had directed security agencies to investigate the killing and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
The spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, also confirmed the incident, stating that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
