Gombe Central: APC Drops Goje, Picks Ahmed As Consensus Candidate
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has settled for a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed, as its consensus candidate for the Gombe Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, effectively sidelining former governor and incumbent senator, Danjuma Goje.
Ahmed’s emergence followed consultations among party leaders and key stakeholders across Yamaltu/Deba and Akko local government areas.
In a statement by the convener of “A Call to Action,” Ambassador Benjamin Abner Mamman, stakeholders described the development as a major political breakthrough for the people of the senatorial district.
Mamman said the consensus arrangement reflected unity of purpose among party faithful and expressed optimism that Ahmed’s candidature would strengthen the APC’s chances in the forthcoming elections.
He commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for what he termed “statesmanship and leadership” in guiding the process that led to the agreement, noting that the move would further consolidate cohesion within the party.
“The emergence of DCP Mohammed Ahmed (rtd) is a testament to our collective resolve to move forward in unity and build a stronger political future for our people,” he said.
He further called on residents of Yamaltu/Deba and Akko to sustain their support and work towards the success of the APC in the 2027 polls..
