Three members of the house of representatives have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, read the defection notices during Thursday’s plenary.

Bello el-Rufai, who represents Kaduna north federal constituency, defected from the APC to the ADC.

Ajilo Shehu, lawmaker representing Makarfi/Kudan federal constituency in Kaduna, and Sulieman Richifa(Soba federal constituency, Kaduna), moved from the PDP to the ADC.

Meanwhile, Joshua Obika, representing Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), defected from the APC to the NDC.

Esosa Iyawe (Oredo federal constituency, Edo) also moved from APC to NDC, attributing his decision to an “irreconcilable difference” with Monday Okpebholo, the state governor.

In a statement, el-Rufai said he will seek re-election on the ADC platform.

“This decision was not taken lightly. As a proud son of Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, I am guided by courage, conviction, and the unshakable belief that our people deserve the very best,” he said.

“To the people of Kaduna North: our work continues, and it will not stop. We will never compromise on delivering quality representation. There is still so much to do.”
