Davido, Wizkid keep mum as investors dangle $1bn celebrity boxing showdown
Silence from Afrobeats superstars Davido and Wizkid has continued to fuel conversations online after Nigerian music executive Soso Soberekon revealed that a group of investors is willing to commit a staggering $1 billion towards a proposed celebrity boxing match involving the two music icons.
The proposal has since sparked widespread reactions across social media, with fans calling on both singers to finally settle years of rivalry inside the boxing ring rather than through subtle jabs, fan wars, and online tensions.
Soberekon disclosed that the investors believe a showdown between Davido and Wizkid could become one of the biggest entertainment spectacles ever staged in Africa, capable of attracting global sponsors, massive streaming revenue, and record-breaking pay-per-view numbers.
According to him, the fight could be staged at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium due to the enormous crowd expected to attend the historic event.
While neither Davido nor Wizkid has publicly reacted to the proposal, their silence has only intensified speculation among fans, many of whom have flooded X, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook with heated debates over who would dominate in the ring.
The conversation quickly expanded beyond the two Afrobeats stars, as fans also dragged veteran singers Kcee and Harrysong into the trend, urging the longtime rivals to also settle their lingering feud through a celebrity boxing bout.
Several users argued that celebrity fights could become a new entertainment business in Nigeria, similar to the growing trend abroad where influencers, musicians, and celebrities step into the ring for highly publicised events.
Others, however, questioned whether the proposed fight would ever materialise, citing the global commitments, endorsement deals, and personal brands attached to both Davido and Wizkid.
Despite the skepticism, the proposal has continued to dominate entertainment conversations online, with many fans describing the potential clash as the “fight of the decade” should both stars eventually agree to participate.
For now, however, both camps remain quiet, leaving fans to speculate whether the billion-dollar proposal is merely social media excitement or the beginning of a blockbuster entertainment event capable of reshaping celebrity culture in Africa. (Sunday Tribune)
