The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has launched an attack on Governor Ademola Adeleke over his 66th birthday, accusing him of misappropriating over N1 trillion in federal allocations received by the state under his administration.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the opposition party said although it joined family members and associates in celebrating Adeleke’s birthday, the occasion should also serve as a moment of accountability for what it described as “financial recklessness” and “policy somersaults” under his government.

The party alleged that Adeleke squandered public funds on “frivolities” instead of development projects, claiming his administration had failed to deliver effective governance nearly four years after assuming office.

“It would not however be a tall order to advise you to apologize to the entire residents of the state for misappropriating the over N1 trillion revenue that has accrued into the state government coffer under your watch meant for the development of the state which you have been squandering on frivolities for close to four years of your tenure in the office,” the party said.

“It is also part of our supplications that you should be favoured with a sound health after your imminent exit from the office with a view to having the wherewithal to face your trial on financial mismanagement of the public funds while in the office before the nation’s anti-graft agencies.”

The APC further accused the governor of nepotism and incompetence, saying his administration had become synonymous with “visible and verifiable nepotism in all the spheres” of governance.

The opposition party also mocked Adeleke’s public lifestyle, referencing his well-known dancing displays and social engagements, while alleging that over N92 billion had been spent on “wining and dining” during his tenure.

“We shall, during your next birthday anniversary, be happy to miss your constant missteps, policy summersault, obnoxious dancing, wining and dining which has gulped N92 billion of the common patrimony of the people of the state within the three years in the lifetime of your administration,” it said.

The statement further alleged that Adeleke spent over N600 million to rehabilitate a shrine in his hometown and accused him of donating N1 billion allegedly sourced from state funds to a church in Lagos during a memorial service for his late mother.

The APC claimed Adeleke could face investigation by anti-graft agencies after leaving office in 2026 when his constitutional immunity would no longer apply.

The party expressed confidence that its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, would defeat Adeleke in the August 15, 2026 governorship election in the state.

The statement repeatedly described Adeleke’s administration as unpopular and “evidently sunk,” while warning that those allegedly encouraging the governor’s actions would not stand by him “on the day of statutory accountability.”

“We shall be doing the good people of the state an unpardonable disservice if we fail to advise you for the umpteenth time not to, as usual, squander the revenue of the state on the birthday anniversary celebration just the way you injudiciously spent over N600 million to rehabilitate a shrine in your town sometime ago,” it said.

“It would also not be out of tune to remind you of the necessity to corroborate with the correctional centres in the state for the rehabilitation of the structures that may be befitting of the status of a temporary abode of a former state governor who will definitely have some questions to answer on the plundering of the resources of the state.”

It said, “We shall continue to pray for your good health and wish you that the next venue of your birthday would not be under the strict supervision of the nation’s anti-corruption agencies based on your unenviable financial recklessness while in government.

“Finally, it is expedient for you to know that you would have been stripped of your constitutional immunity during your next birthday anniversary and there wouldn’t be any sanctuary for your goons who, all along, have taken the supposed state Government House as a sacred and symbol of authority and discipline.”

“Once again, happy birthday anniversary to you Governor/Pastor/Alhaji/Priest/Dr/Chief Jackson Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke while we are recollecting the gift of the N1 billion suspected to have been sourced from the state coffer, that you gave to a white garment church in Lagos sometime ago during the remembrance service of your late mother, Mrs Nnena Esther Adeleke,” the statement added.(SaharaReporters)
