Sokoto: Troops Foil Attack On Immigration Outpost, Kill 2 Lakurawa Terrorists
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) facility in Sokoto State, killing two suspected members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG).
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, the terrorists attempted to set ablaze an NIS outpost at Ruwa Wiri village in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state before troops swiftly responded to a distress call.
Osoba said the troops engaged the attackers in a gun duel, neutralising two of the terrorists, while others escaped with gunshot injuries following what he described as overwhelming firepower from the troops.
He added that a follow-up exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle used by the fleeing terrorists.
The army spokesman also revealed that troops, during a separate operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, intercepted terrorists moving with rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai settlement.
He said the troops engaged the criminals and forced them to abandon 62 rustled animals, which were later recovered and handed over to their rightful owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head.
Osoba reiterated that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remained committed to tackling terrorism and banditry across the North-West and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence.
