INEC Confirms Submission Of Membership Registers By All Political Parties
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that all the 22 registered political parties have submitted their membership registers in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Chairman of the commission’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
INEC said the submission followed an extension granted to political parties after concerns were raised over the initial deadline during a meeting held on March 24, 2026.
According to the commission, all the political parties submitted their registers on or before May 8, 2026, two days ahead of the extended deadline of May 10.
“The submission followed the extension granted by the Commission after political parties raised concerns during a meeting on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, regarding the timeline provided in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election,” the statement said.
INEC recalled that it had, after consultations with political parties, adjusted the deadline for submission of membership registers from April 21, 2026, to May 10, 2026.
The commission said the adjustment was made to align with the provisions of Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the dates fixed by political parties for their primaries.
It added that political parties were allowed to conduct their primaries within the approved period from April 23 to May 30, 2026, while the membership registers were to be submitted not later than 21 days before the conduct of their respective primaries.
INEC said the submitted registers would now undergo verification processes in line with the law.
“The Commission remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections,” the statement added.
