Man City to build Guardiola’s statue at Etihad Stadium
Man City say a statue will be commissioned in honour of Pep Guardiola and his achievements with the club.
City confirmed Guardiola’s exit on Friday after an earlier report hinted that the Spanish coach would be leaving the club after a decade in charge.
Following the announcement, City added that the newly developed and expanded North Stand at the Etihad Stadium will be renamed “Pep Guardiola Stand” and a statue in the image of the 55-year-old will be erected close to it.
“I said a long time ago that Manchester City should have the very best people at its disposal, both on and off the field. For ten years, Pep has been the personification of that ambition,” Sheikh Mansour, the owner of the club, said.
“He has made an indelible imprint on the DNA of the Club. One that is borne more from how he won than from the many trophies he lifted.
“He has the unending gratitude of myself and the entire City family, a family of which he will always be part.”
Guardiola will handle his last match as City’s manager on Sunday in the final English Premier League (EPL) match of the season against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.
Since arriving in June 2016, Guardiola has won six EPL titles, including an unprecedented four consecutive championships.
He also won the UEFA Champions League crown in 2023, completing the season with a treble that includes the EPL title and the FA Cup, for the club’s first-ever European treble. (TheCable)
