2027: We’ll Neither Rig Nor Allow Our Opponent Rig Us Out – Gov Mohammed

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has declared that the Allied People’s Movement (APM) will neither engage in election rigging nor allow itself to be cheated in the 2027 general elections.

Mohammed spoke at the Bauchi Government House during the affirmation of candidates for elective offices in the state, where the party formally unveiled its governorship and deputy governorship candidates.

The governor said the party was entering the 2027 contest prepared for a tough political battle.

He stressed that no opponent would be taken lightly.

“We are not going to underestimate our competitors. Even if a child born today is a candidate, I am going to deal with him like a grown-up person,” he said.

According to him, “It is a new game entirely. We are going back to the people to sell our credentials and what we have done. We will not urge anybody to rig for us, but we will not allow anybody to rig us. This is our policy.”

Mohammed called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee a transparent and credible electoral process.

He said democracy can only thrive where justice and fairness prevail.

“If we win, we will accept it. If we lose, we will accept it, especially where there is transparency, justice and equity. That is democracy,” he stated.

The governor also used the occasion to rally party loyalists ahead of the 2027 elections.

He urged them to remain united and committed to the party’s objectives.

In a post on his X handle on Friday, Mohammed confirmed the emergence of Yakubu Adamu, the state commissioner for finance, as the APM governorship candidate, with Mahmood Abubakar named as his running mate.

Mohammed, who recently defected to the APM, also appreciated party stakeholders for endorsing him as the party’s senatorial candidate for Bauchi South.

“This development reflects our collective determination to strengthen unity within the party, expand our support base, and position ourselves for success in the 2027 elections,” he wrote.

He urged members of the party to remain steadfast in pursuing what he described as a brighter and more prosperous future for Bauchi State.(Daily trust)
