7 Killed As Farmers, Herders Clash In Bauchi
Seven people were killed, six others injured, and dozens of homes destroyed following a violent clash on Thursday between farmers and herders in Lanzai and Dosho communities, Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying security operatives had restored normalcy in the affected communities.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the command received a distress report at about 9.20am that suspected Fulani herders attacked farmers applying local fertiliser on their farmland on the outskirts of Lanzai community.
The attack reportedly triggered a reprisal by youths from Lanzai, who mobilised and stormed Dosho, a Fulani settlement. During the retaliation, about 50 huts were set ablaze, and several household items destroyed.
“The incident resulted in the death of seven persons, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical treatment,” Habib said.
He added that extensive damage was recorded in the destruction of residential structures and personal property.
He said following the violence, tactical police operatives were deployed to the affected areas to restore law and order, prevent further escalation, and begin investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the immediate and underlying causes of the clash.
He assured residents that those responsible for both the initial attack and the reprisal violence would be identified and prosecuted. (Daily trust)
