Three officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been killed by gunmen in the Bagudo LGA of Kebbi state.
Security sources cited by Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency publication, said the attack occurred at about 12:55 pm on June 4 while the officers were on official duty along the route.
The assailants were said to have laid an ambush for the team.
On sighting the attackers, the FRSC personnel reportedly attempted to flee, but the gunmen pursued them on motorcycles and opened fire, killing all three officers.
The victims were identified as Umar Aliyu, a deputy chief road marshal assistant (DCRMA), Ezra Manu Gona, a senior road marshal assistant (SRMA), and Mansur Ibrahim Nasir, a road marshal assistant I (RMA I).
Makama reported that the incident has heightened tension in the area, with security sources saying personnel have been advised to exercise caution pending further security assessments.
The publication noted that authorities said efforts were ongoing to track the perpetrators and clarify the circumstances surrounding the ambush.
It added that security forces have since intensified surveillance and other precautionary measures in the affected axis to prevent further attacks and restore calm along the route.(TheCable)
