U.S. lawmakers to impeach judge Eleanor Ross over courthouse sex with policeman
U.S lawmakers are moving to impeach federal judge Eleanor Ross after a judiciary panel report found that she had sex with a police officer in chambers during work hours.
Mrs Ross was last week busted for having sex in the courthouse, eliciting calls for her impeachment from some lawmakers.
Rep. Andrew Clyde, in a post on X, announced he was drafting an article of impeachment against the embattled federal judge.
“I’m actively drafting articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross,” Mr Clyde said on Thursday. “Her egregious misconduct, severe lack of integrity, and blatant impartiality warrant impeachment proceedings.”
Jim Jordan, House Judiciary Committee chairman, said his team was working on had a memo on Mrs Ross’s misconduct.
“We’re looking at it. We’re going to run it by our members and see,” Mr Jordan said, adding he also wouldn’t rule out Mrs Ross’s impeachment. “Everything’s on the table. We don’t take anything off the table.
Rep. Clay Fuller, in a social media post on Friday, also said he was working with Mr Jordan to introduce an article of impeachment against Mrs Ross on Monday.
“I am dropping an article of impeachment against Eleanor L. Ross, a Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. I have been working on this alongside @repjimjordan since the news broke and will be introducing this on Monday,” Mr Fuller said on X.
“This radical judge has no place in power and is unfit to sit on the federal bench,” he said.
Only 15 federal judges have been impeached in U.S. history; the most recent impeachment was in 2010.
Mrs Ross has been in the eye of the storm since the judiciary report exposed her sexual scandal in the courthouse.
The man who had sex with Mrs Ross in the courthouse during business hours was identified as an Atlanta Police Department Deputy Chief, Kelley Collier.
The Atlanta Police Department has also opened an investigation into a judicial report accusing one of its officers of having sex with a federal judge in the courthouse during work hours.
