Osun Governor Adeleke Escapes Injury As Stage Collapses During Campaign Rally Ahead Of Polls
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and several top government officials narrowly escaped injury on Wednesday after a stage collapsed during a political rally in Ijebu-Jesa, Oriade Local Government Area of the state.
The rally was part of political mobilisation efforts ahead of the forthcoming Osun governorship election, with supporters and leaders of the ruling Accord Party gathering to drum up support for the governor.
A video of the incident obtained by SaharaReporters showed Adeleke, his deputy, Kola Adewusi, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and spokesperson of the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, seated on the podium when it suddenly caved in.
The 30-second clip showed entertainers performing on stage while the event anchor was concluding a session and preparing to introduce the next item on the programme before the structure gave way, throwing occupants into confusion.
Eyewitnesses said the collapse triggered panic among party supporters and attendees, who rushed towards the scene as security personnel moved swiftly to evacuate those affected.
A source at the rally said that the incident briefly disrupted the programme.
“The stage suddenly collapsed while the governor and other dignitaries were seated. There was panic initially, but security officials quickly intervened and assisted those affected,” the source said.
