Troops overrun terrorist strongholds in Sambisa forest, dismantle logistics base
Troops of the Nigerian Army and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) have destroyed terrorist camps during an offensive operation in Sambisa forest, Gwoza LGA of Borno state.
The operation was carried out at about 8:26am on June 19 by troops of the 26 task force brigade garrison.
Sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, that the joint security team conducted the operation within the Sambisa forest axis, targeting known terrorist hideouts in the area.
Troops made contact with suspected ISWAP terrorists at Disa and Balangaje villages, who fled upon sighting the advancing troops during the operation.
Troops destroyed the terrorist camps and logistical support structure, which were believed to be used by the insurgents for shelter and coordination.
Military authorities said the operation was part of sustained efforts to deny terrorist groups freedom of action and dismantle their infrastructure within the Sambisa Forest axis.
No casualties were recorded among troops during the operation. (TheCable)
