Jordan leave spotless locker room, gifts after World Cup defeat

Jordan’s national football team has earned widespread praise after leaving their dressing room spotless and presenting gifts and a handwritten note following their 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Algeria.

FIFA shared footage of the gesture on its social media platforms on Tuesday, describing it as “ultimate respect” from the debutants after their Group J encounter.

Jordan lost 2–1 to Algeria at Levi’s Stadium, a result that, combined with an opening defeat to Austria, confirmed their exit from the tournament at the group stage.

Despite the disappointment, the team left a positive impression off the pitch.

Video from the locker room showed neatly arranged black chairs, clean cubicles, and an orderly environment.

On a white table, the players left boxes of traditional Jordanian sweets alongside gift sets containing commemorative pins and keychains, including Jordan Football Association badges, national team crests, and miniature red jerseys.

A handwritten-style note left by the team read in part, “Thank you for helping make Jordan’s first FIFA World Cup experience a truly unforgettable one.

“Your dedication, professionalism, and warm hospitality have contributed to a memorable occasion for our team and supporters.

“As a small gesture of appreciation, we are pleased to share with you some of Jordan’s traditional sweets, a taste of our rich traditions and renowned hospitality.

“With our sincere gratitude and best wishes, Team Jordan.”

FIFA captioned the post “Ultimate respect,” commending the team for their conduct.

The gesture has drawn praise from fans and analysts, with some comparing it to similar acts by other national teams, like Japan, known for post-match etiquette.

Jordan’s participation in the 2026 World Cup marks a historic milestone for the country.

Head coach Jamal Sellami expressed pride in his team’s performance and discipline despite their early exit.

The team will play their last match against group leader Argentina on Sunday, June 28.

While the game is a dead rubber for Jordan, Argentina have already qualified for the round of 32.
