How Dealers Plant Drugs In Passengers’ Luggage At Abuja Motor Parks
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), working with their counterparts in Anambra State, have uncovered a syndicate that allegedly plants illicit drugs in the luggage of unsuspecting passengers travelling through motor parks.
The agency said the syndicate’s modus operandi was exposed after operatives intercepted a consignment of methamphetamine in a Sienna bus travelling from Nnewi, Anambra State, to Abuja.
According to a statement by the agency, the bus was intercepted at Abaji in the FCT on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
During a search of the vehicle, operatives recovered a waybill package containing a whitish substance suspected to be methamphetamine. The substance was concealed in a black nylon bag, which had been placed inside another sack containing clothes. The receiver’s phone number was written on the sack.
A follow-up operation conducted the same day led to the arrest of the supposed recipient of the package, Mrs Gloria Peter, at Utako Motor Park in Abuja.
However, she denied ownership of the package and insisted she had no knowledge of its contents.
Her denial prompted further investigations, leading to the arrest of the loaders of the Sienna bus in Nnewi.
During interrogation, one of the loaders allegedly confessed that he had placed the drug package in the woman’s bag on the instruction of the bus driver, Abdurrazak Isah.
The driver subsequently admitted that the package belonged to one of his passengers, identified as Onyebuchi Victor Okoye.
Based on the information, NDLEA operatives arrested Okoye during another follow-up operation at Utako Motor Park in the FCT.
The agency said the recovered consignment of suspected methamphetamine weighed 467.7 grams. (Daily trust)
