Omoyele Sowore, activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), says incarceration will not break his resolve to fight for justice in Nigeria.

In a post on X post after his release from Kuje prison on Tuesday, Sowore reiterated his resolve to continue his struggle for justice.

“Prison has never broken the resolve of those who fight for justice. If anything, it only strengthens our determination,” he said.

“The struggle continues. We will never surrender. #RevolutionNow #Sowore2027.”

Earlier on Tuesday, a federal high court in Abuja granted N200 million bail to Sowore with two sureties.

The judge ordered that the activist must provide two sureties, one of whom must be a traditional ruler from his community, while the other must own landed property within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The judge also ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the court registrar as part of the bail conditions pending the determination of the case.

Subsequently, the judge ordered that Sowore should be released to his lawyers pending perfection of the bail conditions.

The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting Sowore on a two-count charge over a social media post in which he allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal” on his X and Facebook accounts

The activist had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Subsequently, the court granted the defendant bail on self-recognition basis.

On June 16, the presiding judge revoked Sowore’s bailand issued a warrant of arrest against him after the activist failed to attend the day’s proceedings.

The judge held that the letter seeking an adjournment on Sowore’s behalf did not provide reasons for his absence from court.

On June 22, Umar ordered the remand of Sowore at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his application challenging the revocation of his bail.

The court had also dismissed an application by Sowore seeking the judge’s recusal from the case on grounds of alleged bias. (TheCable)
