Kane Double Sends DR Congo Out Of World Cup
Hary Kane scored two second half goals as England came back from a goal deficit to defeat DR Congo 2-1 in their 2026 World Cup round of 32 encounter at Atlanta stadium.
The Bayern Munich striker continued his form in North America to rescue a sub-par England after DR Congo took an early lead that looked like causing an upset.
DR Congo took the lead on seven minutes through Brian Cipenga, the forward’s low shot beat Jordan Pickford at his near post for 1-0 to the Leopards with their first ever knockout goal.
Thomas Tuchel’s made two vital substitutions in Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka, and both changed the tide of the match to end the poor record thanks to Kane scoring twice in the final 15 minutes of the match.
Kane reacted fastest to Anthony Gordon’s cross with an emphatic header that Lionel Mpasi could only palm into the net on 75 minutes. Kane doubled the lead for the winner 11 minutes later, the former Tottenham striker collected a Gordon pass before lashing a bullet into the top corner with the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
It is the 32-year-old striker’s fifth goal of the campaign, joint-third with Erling Haaland, and one goal behind leaders Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
England also maintained their 100% record against African opponents in the knockout rounds, with the latest ouster of Congo DR following
