PHOTOS: Family, associates unveil foundation in honour of Buhari
A foundation has been launched in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja at the first anniversary of Buhari’s death, President Bola Tinubu said public officeholders should emulate the late leader’s values of honesty, simplicity and self-discipline.
Tinubu, who was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said Buhari was a patriot whose legacy continued to shape national leadership one year after his passing.
He said Buhari’s transition from military ruler to democratically elected president distinguished him as one of the country’s unique political figures.
According to the president, Buhari’s greatest legacy was the consistency in his principles and personal conduct throughout his years in public service.
“President Buhari gave everything he had to this country, and he gave it without reservation. He served with courage, with conviction, and with a patriotism that never asked what the nation could return to him,” Tinubu said.
He noted that the ex-president retained the confidence of many Nigerians after leaving office because he earned public trust through discipline and integrity.
The president also assured Aisha Buhari, former first lady, and members of the Buhari family of the federal government’s continued support.
Yakubu Gowon, former head of state, said the large turnout at Buhari’s burial reflected the respect and admiration he commanded within and outside Nigeria.
Boss Mustapha, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), said the foundation was an initiative of Buhari’s family and associates aimed at preserving the former president’s legacy of service, sacrifice and dedication to Nigeria.
He said the responsibility of sustaining Buhari’s ideals rests not only on political leaders but on all Nigerians committed to peaceful coexistence and national development.
