Two abducted Ogun residents freed after ransom payment

Two residents of Kobape in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, Kelvin Moyegun and Kehinde Rufai, who were abducted by suspected kidnappers, have been freed by their abductors following the payment of ransom.

PUNCH Metro learnt from a family source on Sunday that they were released on Thursday after about one week in the kidnapper’s den.

The family source who did not want to be mentioned in the press told our correspondent that the families of the victims were relieved to have seen their members returned unhurt.

According to the source, the families were not willing to disclose the amount and sensitive details to avoid reprisal attacks.

The source said, “They were released on Thursday after both families paid the ransom. We do not want to disclose the amount paid so that they won’t come back.

“My sister is at the hospital at the moment receiving treatment.”

PUNCH Metro had exclusively reported that the suspected kidnappers had demanded N50m for the victims’ release.

The victims were kidnapped by about four gun-wielding kidnappers while another resident, identified as Al-Haqq Shobakin, was shot and was hospitalised.

The gunmen had reportedly ambushed them as they were about to leave their residence.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, had said that operatives of the command were deployed to rescue the victims and arrest the hoodlums

The incident came about a month after the Ogun and Lagos state police commands launched Operation Kosaye to combat kidnapping and other crimes. (Punch)
