Jealousy Drove Me To Sever My Boyfriend’s Private Organ – Suspect

A 25-year-old woman, Maimunatu Idris, of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has confessed to attacking her boyfriend and severing his private organ at a hotel in the Badawa area of Kano, saying she was driven by jealousy and love.

The Kano State Police Command had on Monday said the suspect attacked her lover with a sharp knife after learning of his plan to marry another woman.

The police said she was arrested immediately after the incident and the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.

The victim was rushed to the Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is receiving treatment, while the suspect remains in police custody at the command headquarters.

Speaking from custody, Maimunatu said she had been in a relationship with the victim for six years and that their wedding had once been fixed but was later called off.

She said she subsequently accepted another marriage proposal but cancelled the arrangement after her boyfriend insisted she should not marry anyone else, only for him to later abandon her.

“Initially, he told me that he was getting married, and I had been his girlfriend for six years. Our wedding date was even fixed before, but it was later suspended.

“Afterwards, my wedding date was fixed with another suitor, but he insisted that I would not marry anyone else except him. So I cancelled the marriage, only for him to later turn his back on me after I rejected someone because of him. That was why I did what I did to him,” she said.

She revealed that she brought the knife from her home in Maigatari, claiming she intended to present it as a wedding gift. She said she travelled to Kano for a wedding ceremony and used the opportunity to meet her boyfriend at the hotel.

“We met around 2 p.m. that day. He ate, took some drugs for a headache and fell asleep. I tried waking him up, but he didn’t wake until the following morning. I went through his phone and listened to some voice notes in which they were talking badly about me.

“I became upset and switched off the phone. I tried waking him again, but he still didn’t wake up. Then I became furious and said, since I had already come with a knife, let me use it,” she recounted.

According to her, she severed his private organ and then attempted to clean him up in the restroom before the hotel receptionist intervened.

“I am sane. I’m not under the influence of any drugs, but I regret my actions. I should have left him alone. I got jealous when I realised he was about to dump me, and I really love him. I did it out of love,” she said.

She admitted acting alone without consulting anyone.

We want justice, says victim’s family

The victim’s family has called on the authorities to ensure that justice is served.

They said they had opposed the planned marriage because they believed Maimunatu was “too exposed” for their son.

The victim’s elder brother, Ibrahim Sani, said the family had known Maimunatu as his brother’s long-time girlfriend.

He explained that although marriage had once been considered, the family later objected to the union.

“Our parents said she was too exposed and too mature for him. They are almost the same age, and that was one of the reasons the marriage arrangement was cancelled,” Ibrahim said.

He added that despite the family’s reservations, the relationship continued until the incident occurred.

Police: Suspect to face attempted murder charge

The Kano State Police Command said investigations are ongoing at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), adding that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspect admitted attacking the victim while he was asleep, claiming that he took sleeping pills.

“From our investigations so far and from what she told us, we did not find anything to suggest that he was under the influence of any drug. However, we recovered a soft drink and bottled water from the scene, and both are being examined as part of the investigation,” he said.

Kiyawa described the incident as unprecedented in the state’s record of domestic violence.

He added that the victim remains alive and is responding to treatment at the hospital.(Daily trust)
