EFCC hands over N125m recovered from fraudster to victim

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over N125 million recovered from an alleged land fraudster to the victim in Lagos.

This was contained in a statement that was posted on the X handle of the anti-corruption commission: @officialEFCC, on Friday.

The EFCC said that it handed over the recovered funds to the victim, Akinsewa Akiode, on Thursday through Sterling Bank drafts.

It stated that the recovery followed a petition by Akiode alleging that Olufemi Fasehun defrauded him of N125 million under the pretext of selling him a 550-square-metre parcel of land at 10, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos.

It said: “The petitioner alleged that Fasehun concealed the existence of a pending court case involving the property, which had been before the court since 2011.

“Investigation revealed that the suspect had been served with several court processes, including injunctions restraining him from carrying out any construction on the property, but failed to disclose the information before collecting the purchase money.

“The petitioner subsequently lost both the property and developments under construction on the land, prompting him to petition the EFCC.”

The commission said it recovered N125 million from the suspect after concluding its investigation and subsequently restituted the funds to Akiode.

Speaking during the handover, the Acting Zonal Director, Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, EFCC, Bawa Kaltungo, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to investigating economic and financial crimes and recovering proceeds of crime.

The Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) also assured that the commission would continue to ensure that victims of fraud were restituted whenever necessary.
