ALERT: NDLEA warns parents over illicit drugs hidden in cookies, gummies

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has asked parents to closely monitor their children’s craving for cookies and gum.

In an X post on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s director of media and advocacy, said recent seizures by the agency show a desperate attempt by criminal elements to smuggle in illegal substances under the guise of cookies

“If your kids and young ones always crave cookies and gummies, you may have to pay a little more attention,” Babafemi said.

“There may be more to it than ordinary cookies and gummies, as one of the latest seizures by @ndlea_nigeria officers shows a desperate attempt by criminal elements to smuggle in illicit substances under the guise of cookies and gummies.”

The photos that accompanied the post showed colourful pouches of “Cookies delta 8 gummies” in different flavours.

The seizures were labelled in different flavours such as Hawaiian Rain, Pineapple Guava, and Thai Mango, alongside the actual gummy products.

In a separate post, Babafemi said the agency seized consignments of cocaine packaged in phone chargers.

“In the surface value, these are phone chargers, but @ndlea_nigeria officers won’t fall for that. Concealed in there are consignments of cocaine going to Saudi Arabia,” he said.

He, however, warned travellers to stop assisting people in delivering parcels and luggage at face value because of the desperation of traffickers.
