Osun Polls: INEC Records 1.9 Million PVC Collections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says over 1.9 million permanent voter cards (PVCs) were collected for the Osun governorship election. 

In a statement on Thursday, INEC’s National Commissioner, Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the number was derived from the total of 2,339,233 registered voters in the State.

“Out of the total of 2,339,233 registered voters in the State, 1,906,390 PVCs, representing 81.50 per cent, have been collected. The remaining 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, have been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in line with the Commission’s established practice.

“Similarly, it should be noted that some persons with damaged, defaced, or lost PVCs applied for replacement of their cards. A total of 6,101 among those who applied printed downloadable copies of their PVCs,” INEC said, noting that a table of the PVCs collected, Polling Unit by Polling Unit (PU), has been published on its website.

INEC reassured political parties, civil society organisations, media, and the good people of Osun State of its total readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive election on Saturday, 15th August 2026.

Meanwhile, as the hours, minutes and even seconds go by, expectations are at an all-time high for both the contestants and the electorate in Osun State. With just two days to the governorship election, the Nigeria Police is ramping up last-minute preparations, deploying thousands of personnel across the state’s 30 local government areas to ensure a peaceful and credible poll.

Police sources and official statements indicate a minimum of four officers are assigned to each of the 3,673 polling units.

This figure excludes support from sister agencies.
