English Premier League winners Arsenal have won the FA Community Shield with a resounding 3-0 victory against FA Cup winners Manchester City at Principality Stadium.

The North London side claimed the first silverware of the season- and the club’s 18th Community Shield win- thanks to goals from Ricardo Calafiori, Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard in the curtain raiser to the new EPL season.

Man City lined up without coach Pep Guardiola for the first time in 10 years following his summer exit, and new coach Enzo Maresca fielded record signing Elliot Anderson in midfield for his debut.

Arsenal had not defeated Man City in their last three meetings but set the tone for a first win in four meetings in the first minute, with Calafiori’s well-placed shot on 23 seconds putting the EPL champions ahead.

Arsenal then picked City apart with a deep cross that found Tzolis at the back post and the Belgian knocked the ball on for Havertz to head home for 2-0 on 28 minutes.

Odegaard capped his excellent performance with the clinching goal on the second half when he collected a Tzolis pass before slotting into an empty net after dribbling past a defender and goalkeeper. It was the club captain’s first goal since last December.

The Gunners eased through to full-time to seal their third Community Shield win since 2020, and first since 2023 when they also defeated Man City, on penalties.
