Barcelona agree deal to sign Rodri from Man City
Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Spanish midfielder Rodri, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Romano announced the blockbuster transfer on Sunday, using his trademark “Here we go!” to indicate that the deal has been agreed.
The journalist reported that Manchester City gave the green light to Barcelona’s latest bid for the former Ballon d’Or winner, paving the way for Rodri to move to the Catalan club.
The agreement brings an end to intense negotiations between the two clubs, with Barcelona having improved their offer after City rejected earlier proposals for the midfielder. Reports indicate that the final agreement is worth around €70 million.
Rodri, 30, has been one of the most influential midfielders in European football since joining Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019.
He played a key role in City’s success during his time at the Etihad, including their historic treble in the 2022/23 season. He also won the 2024 Ballon d’Or after an outstanding campaign with club and country.
His move to Barcelona would mark a return to Spanish football and provide the Catalan giants with one of the world’s leading defensive midfielders.
The transfer is still subject to the completion and exchange of the final documentation before the move can be formally announced.
Rodri’s arrival would represent one of Barcelona’s biggest moves of the summer transfer window as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.
