The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has commended President Bola Tinubu for what it described as his “statesmanlike role” in balancing his position as leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and “father of the nation” during the Osun governorship election.

The forum also congratulated Ademola Adeleke, Osun governor, on his re-election and wished him a successful second term.

In a statement on Sunday, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, NGF chairman and governor of Kwara state, said Adeleke’s “strides and personality” contributed to his victory in the keenly contested election.

The forum commended Osun residents for their large turnout, saying the interest generated by the off-cycle election demonstrated the resilience of Nigeria’s democracy.

“The Forum acknowledges the incredibly important role that opposition parties also play in shaping our democracy and we commend all the candidates for their efforts,” the statement said.

The NGF also praised security agencies for curtailing what it described as the initial trend of violence in the days leading to the election.

The forum said the security agencies helped create a secure environment for voters to participate in the election without major incidents.

“Finally, we acknowledge the statesmanlike role that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has played as he carefully balanced his position as the leader of the ruling party on the one hand and the father of the nation on the other,” the NGF said.

The forum expressed confidence that Adeleke would build on the achievements of his first term in the overall interest of Osun residents.

“We are confident that HE Ademola Adeleke will continue to build on the successes of his first term in the overall interest of the people of Osun State,” the NGF said. (TheCable)
