‘Adeleke isn’t Fubara’ — Dele Momodu faults Wike’s claim he could have helped Tinubu win Osun
Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for claiming he could have won Saturday’s governorship election for the All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu had permitted him.
Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, defeated Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, and Najeem Salaam, the ADC flagbearer, in the keenly contested August 15 election.
The incumbent governor and candidate of Accord polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes, while Salaam garnered 17,180 votes.
The governor won in 19 LGAs, while Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, won the remaining 11.
Speaking on Tuesday while inspecting flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja, Wike said he would have helped President Bola Tinubu win Osun for the APC had the president wanted victory for the party “at all costs”.
The minister, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said Tinubu deliberately allowed the election to run without interference from the federal government.
Reacting in a terse post on Tuesday, Momodu faulted the minister’s comment, asking him to stop equating himself to God.
Momodu said Adeleke is not like Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers, who is widely seen as a political godson of the minister.
Wike, former Rivers governor, and Fubara had been been involved in a long political battle over the control of the state. The fallout led to Fubara’s inability to secure a second term ticket.
“OSUN people would have demystified you mercilessly. Adeleke is not Fubara!! My kobo advice, stop equating yourself to GOD,” Momodu wrote. (TheCable)
