2027 campaigns won’t stop n’assembly from legislative duties, says Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that preparations for the 2027 elections will not disrupt the legislative duties of members of the national assembly.

Akpabio spoke with journalists at the presidential wing of the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, after convening a meeting of APC critical stakeholders in Akwa Ibom north west senatorial district.

At the meeting, President Bola Tinubu, Akpabio and Umo Eno, governor of Akwa Ibom, received unanimous endorsements for their return to office in 2027.

In a statement issued by Jackson Udom, Akpabio’s special assistant on media, the senate president said electioneering and legislative responsibilities could run concurrently.

“We are elected for four years and we are going to work for four years. Anybody that is walking on the tiny rope must be able to do the balancing act,” he said.

“We are politicians and campaigns would start very soon. Campaigns can be fixed in the afternoons or evenings while we do our work in the mornings.

“It is not a problem at all. It is not everybody that will go for campaign at the same time because we belong to different political parties.”

Akpabio said the commencement of political campaigns would not affect the national assembly’s legislative activities.

“Nothing will affect legislation. We will continue to make laws to take care of the needs of the people. It has never affected the work of the parliament,” he said.
